Hestia happily skipped along her way through the busy streets of Diagon Alley. It was quite calming for her to see people going on about their lives as though nothing has ever happened and she was extremely happy for that. She gave a cheery bright smile to whomever she recognized or some times just because she felt like it. And she was never going to drag herself down with the sorrows and grief. It was the only the first week of her holidays and she was feeling restless. She was missing her friends and was trying hard to concentrate on getting herself prepared for the last year of her school and get along with the pestering idiot of a sister who is called as Flora. She was quite irritated that morning, and that was why she found herself in the busy place.
Hestia had selected the Diagon as it was known for it's busiest streets which always swarmed with life and some unknown serene magic and away from the muggle world, she added in her mind. While Hestia believed in none of the pureblood supremacy she however stays away from the muggle world when alone. Having been raised in the Wizarding world since her childhood made her oblivious to the workings of the muggle world and thus she never ventured into the place without someone in tow. And she knew that a trip to the London's most famous shopping street was on her to do list for that week as she had to buy the latest dresses for the season. She began to skip her way through the cobbled path and paused when she caught a glance of something. That something would not have been so important unless it was or new dress. And this time it happened to be a dress as she caught sight of the new season collection which was released a few days prior. She had not expected to find it on the window display of Twilfitt and Tattings this soon.
As if on a trance, Hessie's legs lead her into the shop and the moment she entered, she felt at peace. 'This is heaven' she thought as the smell of fabric which engulfed her. She slowly made her way through the crowds and unknowingly she bumped into some one hard. That brought her out of the trance and she instantly stepped away and without even looking at the person she began to apologize "I am so sorry. I did not see you. Did I hurt you?" She mentally smacked herself for being so lost that she did not even see where she was headed to. And she hoped to Merlin that the other person did not take any offense.
Zacharias had some time to himself, so he felt like apparating to Diagon Alley. It was just one of many conveniences that came with being seventeen, as well as being able to wield a wand in public. Because his birthday was in April, he had to wait until the summer holiday to get a full appreciation of it. Now he could actually summon things from across the room, or transfigure things he didn't want his parents sniffing out, or charm his clean clothes into performing a rendition of the can-can while enchanting the record player to play. All right, so some of the charmwork he had performed since The Trace was lifted had been frivolous, but turning the cat's fur pink could entertain him for a while...
Usually he'd be hearing a lot from his friends at this point. He still wanted to go on holiday with them, so he hoped that would happen soon. Either they were all very busy, or they'd still not quite forgiven him for his behaviour last year.
Zach needed a new pair of dragonhide gloves, so he'd turned into Twilfitt and Tattings. His Dad had a greenhouse where he mostly grew vegetables, but he and Zach had been working on a little 'herbology project' together (behind his Mother's back, because she wouldn't approve). Anyway - this plant had a bit of a strong bite to it. Dragonhide was the only thing it couldn't penetrate.
He had just finished browsing a rack and turned... right into somebody else. His hard-wired reaction was to 'tsk' loudly and meet their eyes with a look of annoyance, but when he looked up at her - well. She was a pretty girl. And girls who were pretty... They could get away with knocking him down to the floor. He also happened to recognise this girl from some of his classes, and he was quite certain she was a Slytherin - one of a twin. That always unnerved him. There was always a possibility of getting the wrong one.
"Don't worry, I barely felt it," He assured her, his face lighting up from its initial scowl. "You're no bludger, and I've had a few of those hit me." He quickly gave her the look down. It was the Zach look. He did it a lot, and was never aware of doing it (until someone asked 'why are you eyeing me like that?') "Is it Flora? You do one of the columns in the school paper, don't you?"
Yep - always so difficult with twins.

And the person Hestia bumped into happened to be someone she recognized at once. Or at least she had recognized the person as someone she had seen while at school, and that was a bit better in her opinion to try and figure out who it was. She knew for sure that the guy was not someone from Slytherin as she practically knew everyone's faces and names whether or not she would get along with them was another thing. But given that most of the slytherins were pureblood and their names were often spoken at her home. So the guy had to be someone from the other three houses, and while Hestia was not someone who would keep tabs on people or such, at least she would not do it intentionally. But as a prefect she had to try he best to remember faces and she tried to place his face, she had recognized him as a Hufflepuff in her year above. What was his name? she thought with a slight frown, something which sounded along the lines of Zach..was it Zachary? or was it just Zach? And then she remembered that it was Zacharias, when she placed his face as someone in the quidditch team. Yup, Zacharias Smith was who the person was and she smiled back in his direction when she reassured her that she did not hurt him. Well given that the guy was someone who was in the qudditch team she knew that this small bump would not be a bother to him given that he would endure much worse on the game. She chuckled when he had voiced out her internal thoughts from moments before and she spoke up "well happy to know that".
While most would consider that Hestia would be oblivious of her surroundings, she actually would not be. Or at least she would not be unless she was left in her paradise. But rest of the times she was the type to carefully observe those whom she has a conversation with. And that was how she had picked up on the fact that the elder puff was eyeing her up and she just basked in the fact that she had caught his eye. Not that she was going to pick him on that and nor was she going to act on it. She would just enjoy it for that moment. When he referred to her as Flora, she shook her head with a sigh. She always wondered why people often found it difficult to tell her and her twin apart. Well they were twins, but they weren't identical. At least they were not copy paste twins, they had their differences. "I'm Hestia the prefect, the cheerful and beautiful twin" she said with a hint of smirk. She always loved this introduction. Take that Flora, she thought with a mental grin. And extending her hand forward she spoke up "nice meeting you. And you must be Zacharias right? the chaser of the puff team" she asked in a way of confirmation. There was no way that her information could be wrong, but she had to rub it in his face that she knew who he was. The slytherin brunette can be a bit petty at times.

Okay - so he could agree that she was beautiful, but he wasn't going to say anything out loud. It wasn't often that you heard a girl introduce themselves in such a positive light. Perhaps she wasn't being entirely serious - that little smirk told him this - but it could be that he was tackling an egotistical personality type. It wasn't unheard of for a Slytherin, particularly as a lot of them were idolised and spoiled by their parents and so a bit full of themselves. So, instead of laughing with her, he gave her a bit of a heavy look. Zacharias was extremely critical of people, even if they were pretty girls...
"Yeah..." His voice was laced with scepticism. But still, he extended his hand to meet hers. "Likewise. That's right - and I do play chaser."
What was going on? Was this girl truly this cheerful and likeable, or was she the venus flytrap type: enticing you with a bold and bright personality only to crush you into pieces at the last second? It wasn't unknown for a Slytherin. But, he told himself: he was supposed to be more open minded. The war had concluded and surely a lot of the pureblood fanatics and You-Know-Who supporters were keen to express their innocence. Still - it wasn't as if he was expecting anything from this meeting anyway. Pleasant or unpleasant, it was just that: a coincidental meeting. He may as well enjoy it while it lasted.
"Hestia, sorry. So Flora is your twin sister," He was trying to assure her that he did know things, even if he got them muddled up sometimes. "So... what you're trying to say is that your sister is grumpy and ugly? Sounds like you two get along really well," He scoffed, being sarcastic there, "You know it's kind of odd to see a cheerful Slytherin. They're normally only 'cheerful' when laughing at another's expense. Could that mean you're trying to trick me?"
Zacharias folded his arms across his chest, and grinned at her. He was joking - kind of. He agreed that a lot of Slytherins were cruel like that, but he also didn't really believe Hestia was trying to deceive him. Perhaps she was just... an odd one out. An anomaly of the bunch. How could a girl have such kind-looking eyes and be downright horrid underneath? No - he didn't believe it. Hestia was all right.
Hestia could see his skepticism, but that did not falter her at all. After all she had grown up on the receiving end of such looks. While most of them were good give her looks at her last name, a few of them would doubt her because of her smiling face and care-free attitude. She wondered what made this puff to doubt her. She was pretty much used to it. The neice of the two well known death eaters was what Hestia was, and many expect her to just crackle madly and give out a wicked out out of nowhere and use the cruciatis or the imperious curse on them. That was the reputation her uncle and aunt had, and she was eternally thankful that the were both now in Azkaban, their chances of escaping the prison very much negligible due to the added security after the war. She was also the not so typical slytherin everyone sees and hears about. She has never been the type to hide her emotions or put on a bitchy face while talking to others. I fact she could not understand why people would be that way, and honestly speaking Hestia does not find the need to behave like a cold person when in reality she is not. Slytherin was not about being cold and distant, it was about being cunning and ambitious. Years and years of watching similar cold faced people would make people assume as though ever single person was the same. She nodded her head when he confirmed that her words were true when it came to his position on his quidditch team.
When he asked if Flora is his twin sister, she nodded her head and said "mhmm, she is"/. And when he actually picked and pulled apart her previous words of introduction, she frowned and said "well, Flora is no where near ugly, nor is she grumpy. Just because I introduced myself as cheerful and beautiful do not mean that she is the opposite". She wondered how dumb can he be? I mean did he even think through what he spoke out loud ? Had it been any other person in her place they would've seriously deemed him as stupid and had it been someone from her house, then they would've either hexed him by now, or they wouldn't have been even talking in the first place. "Flora and I get along really well" said Hestia her eyes glued on him as she tried to figure what he was trying to do. Was he trying to prove that she was not that good? or was he trying to use these words against her by telling it all to the world? But then again the whole school knew that there was no such thing as Hstia Carrow and Flora Carrow, it was always Hestia and Flora or the Carrow twins. They were always together and as someone had once said, 'they were attached to the hip'. And then there it was, the main reason why he was picking apart her words. 'Cheerful Slytherin' that was how she was viewed as and the way he meant it was very much similar to what everyone viewed her house as. And especially at this point, she would curse the blasted sorting hat for placing her in slytherin when she could've shone more in ravenclaw, where she truly belonged. Just because of her house, she was being judged harshly. "well let me be very clear Mr. Smith, not everyone in Slytherin are bad and not all of us love to pick on others and laugh at their expense." And when asked if she was trying to trick him, she actually glared at him as she said "not everyone of us are dark lord's in making, we are humans too and we too can be cheerful, if not for the fact that you judge us harshly."

Zacharias shifted his weight upon the other leg, and watched her expression change. For a while she was just as smiley as she'd once been; but at the turn of a hat, she was scowling as he'd clearly insulted her. Or her sister. Or her family, or something, he supposed. His eyebrows went up when she defended her sister's temperament. This was something he revelled in: breaking what he believed to be falseness, and uncovering the true nature beneath. Everybody had a weakness that exposed them for what the truly were, and Zacharias believed he may have found it.
At this point, Zach was unaware of her family name; although he was quite certain she was from a pureblood family. That didn't really mean anything at the moment, but if he'd realised she had connections to Death Eaters; he'd be even more critical of her behaviour. If you can imagine that.
"Just not as cheerful or beautiful as you are?" He asked, continuing to try and push her buttons. "All right - I just assumed that's what you meant. I didn't mean to insult her or anything." But he did need to apologise. He wasn't a complete jerk. At the moment, he was enjoying her being mad - that little bit of fire within her was a sight, that was for sure. He liked that little crease in her nose and thought it was really pretty, and the way that she was several inches shorter but very capable of standing up to herself... it was sort of attractive.
And she'd even called him Mr Smith - now he really was listening to her. His mouth opened slightly, and he followed her every word.
"Well - I just --" He spluttered slightly, feeling a bit of a blush rise to his cheeks. "I mean, I know you're not all... death eaters or something. But, well, you know. You have to admit there are a lot of people in your house who are bad news. I was just being careful." He said this all rather quickly, and then blinked at her. "You can only prove yourself through your actions, I suppose. Just like anyone." He shrugged, "If you were to hex me now, you probably aren't so cheerful..."
He was honestly enjoying teasing her. Unfortunately this was just the effect she had on him.
Hestia Carrow was very well known for her happy attitude and cheerfulness that everyone at her house often consider her to be an ill fit at times in slytherin. But they know very well that this witch had been sorted for her highly cunning mind and they know better than to irritate her out say something against her. While she may have been someone whose patience was a bit better than the rest of her house mates, she was no saint. Even she has her limits and at that moment the elder puff was beginning to make her feel irritated. With every word being spoken by him, she either wanted to face palm herself or smack him. "And why would you again assume that" she asked slowly growing tired of his words. In reality, she and Flora often try and up each other, but that was all in between them. But to the outside world they were together and would never bad mouth each other behind the others back. When he mentioned that he didn't mean to insult Flora, she raised a brow and said "well you did both, intentionally or unintentionally". And she would not even know if he was doing it all on purpose, may be he was expecting to get a raise from her? Or was he trying to find a weakness in her? We'll be ment try hard as almost everyone knows that it is her twin. And she was sure that he would've guessed it by now given the way she was not taking any sort of words against Flora.
Looking at the way her words caused him to become uncomfortable Hestia felt better that she could make him see her point of view. Just because she was a slytherin didn't mean that she was evil and just because one was not sorted to the house of snakes meant that they were all good in their intentions. "You were just judging me by my house, just like everyone else and the funny fact is that you didn't even know of me till date. But you're more than happy to categorize me" she said in a neutral voice. She wasn't angry at him out anything, just surprised with the way everyone seemed to think of those in her house. And she added "and Peter Pettigrew wasn't a Slytherin, and he was the worst of all. And Regulus Black was a slytherin and he was the bravest" she added just so that he would get what she was hinting at. After the war the story of the Potter family betrayal, the innocence of Sirius Black and the sacrifice of Regulus Black was all over the papers. It had been an eye opener for many to know the truth of those incidents. When he mentioned about her proving herself, she outright laughed at him and said "prove myself?? Oh Sweet Salazar you really are the craziest person I've ever met". Who did he think he was? And besides she didn't even feel the need to prove herself, no matter what everyone would. No matter how much she tried, people would always judge her for her last name and it was a wasted effort in her eyes, and if Hestia knew that there was no use for her, she wouldn't even attempt to do it. "Had it been anyone else in my position, we would've been dueling already" said Hestia pointing out the obvious fact to the elder puff. And was she going to hex him? She didn't think so, at least for now she added in her mind. "You're quite the judgemental type for someone in your house" said Hestia having observed him for the last few minutes.
